You cannot beat new moms in their multitasking skills.

When in 2017, Australian MP Larissa Waters addressed Parliament while breastfeeding her baby, she made headlines, to put it lightly. Her daughter, Alia, became the first baby ever breastfed in the federal parliament.

Remembering that day, Waters wrote a fierce post on her Instagram, saying, “We must keep normalizing breastfeeding and supporting women to do so, whether they’re working full time at home or returning to paid employment.”

Time flies when you’re a mum! Two years ago I breastfed my daughter Alia in the Senate – the first time a baby had been breastfed in the federal parliament. We must keep normalising breastfeeding and supporting women to do so, whether they’re working full time at home or returning to paid employment. The Greens also want to extend paid parental leave to 6 months and include super, make childcare free, and look at valuing unpaid care work which is still mostly done by women. And we want more women in parliament! Policies which reflect the lived experience of our community is what we all need, and it will take a more diverse parliament to achieve that. Please help me to keep speaking for you in Queensland, by voting Greens in the Senate this election!

Waters is a Greens MP and their party also wants to extend paid parental leave to six months and make childcare free. They also want to look at valuing unpaid care work which is still mostly done by women. And they want more women in parliament!

“Policies which reflect the lived experience of our community is what we all need, and it will take a more diverse parliament to achieve that,” said Waters.

Right on! We need more women like this at the top!
