To make your product stand out on the shelf, a great thing to do is make it as sustainable as possible. As people learn more and more about the impact their buying habits can have on the environment, they are starting to look for new greener alternatives to reduce this impact. If your products become one of these alternatives, not only will your business be more eco-friendly than most, but you will find customers who want to support you. Below are a few ways that you can make your business and products more sustainable.

Packaging

The packaging that your product comes in can help to reduce the amount of waste that your business produces. Sustainable products should not be wrapped in single-use plastics, multiple layers, polystyrene, and other non-recyclable materials. As an eco-friendly business, you should try and opt for lighter packaging that is less bulky, so it doesn’t take up as much space. You should also pick something that is made out of recycled materials, recyclable or biodegradable. That way, you aren’t contributing to waste in landfill.

Just because your packaging is eco-friendly and less wasteful, doesn’t mean that it can’t be impactful and stand out on the shelves.

Encourage greener transportation

Try to encourage your employees to use greener forms of transportation to get to work. They could walk, ride a bike, use public transport or carpool. Walking or riding a bike will have benefits for the person doing it, as they are incorporating exercise into their day.

All of these methods will also help to reduce the carbon footprint of your business and make everyone aware of ways that they can be environmentally friendly.

Reduce printing

If you don’t need to print a document, keep it digitally. If you want to send customers information, send it to them digitally via email, or when you keep a record of employees’ information, you can do that digitally as well.

If you do need to print something, think of ways that you can make it less impactful to the environment or buy recycled paper and print double-sided.

Use sustainable suppliers

If you are working with other businesses for certain products and services, choose to source things from companies that are also aiming to be sustainable. Make sure that they sustainably produce things. This will also help to contribute to how sustainable your business is.

It is also great to support local businesses and suppliers, because you will be helping your community, and reducing the distance that the goods have to travel.

Use renewable energy sources

If possible, try and look into switching to a renewable energy supplier, or investing in solar panels that you can use to power your business premises. It is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and will reduce the amount of fossil fuels you are using. It can also benefit your company by helping you to save money on your energy bills.

As well as using renewable energy sources, when you buy equipment, make sure that it has a good energy rating, as it will use energy more efficiently.
