These days, it is more important than ever to show your employees that you care about them and their general wellbeing. You want to make sure that you treat them well so that you get the very best out of them. This will mean that they work more productively, increasing your profits and staying with your company longer, saving you money on recruitment costs. 

Showing that you care about the people who work for you should not be an afterthought. It should be something that is built into every aspect of your business operations. Your employees are the lifeblood of your business; they are the ones that handle the day to day running and without them, your business would not be what it is now.

Here, we are going to look at some of the ways that you can show your employees that you care.

Provide them with a safe environment

One of the most important things that you can do for your staff is to provide them a safe and healthy workplace. Make sure that both your operations and processes and the workplace environment itself complies with – and exceeds – all of the relevant health and safety regulations. 

As well as making sure physically they are safe and well at work, it is important that you make sure that they are mentally and emotionally safe. Crack down on any hint of workplace bullying as soon as it starts and make sure your staff feels comfortable in approaching you or any member of HR or management with any issues that they have. 

Do not micromanage them

Presumably, you hired each member of staff because they are suitably qualified and competent to do the job, so trust them to do the job. Of course, you have to provide them with instruction and guidance, but do not hover over them and micromanage every single move that they make. Ultimately, this can end up causing a decline in productivity and morale as employees feel like they are not trusted enough to do the job. Give them some freedom and creativity to work in a way that gets the job done safely and effectively. 

Reward them

Pretty much every human being is driven by praise and reward. It can be hard to remain motivated day in, day out when you do not feel the work that you do is appreciated by your managers. Of course, you pay them for what they do, but you can also do things like providing them with corporate holiday vouchers, give them the odd few hours out to attend events at school or their birthday off, or arrange for donuts or cakes to be delivered once a week for a treat for hitting targets. Often, just a “well done” or “thank you – you did a great job” can be more than enough to make someone feel appreciated.

By looking after your staff, you will see much higher levels of productivity and lower levels of staff turnover, and this will help your bottom line in the long run.
